Jane Austen Birthday Celebration Offers Free Gifts & Fabulous Posts

December 14, 2010 by Vic

It wouldn’t be fair to neglect someone as important and dear to us as Jane Austen on her birthday. She was born on 16th December 1775, it’ll be 235 years next week . We owe so many immensely pleasant moments to her that we decided she deserved a great B-day celebration. My Jane Austen Book Club and other bloggers and Austen dedicated writers are going to have a blog party in her honour. Awesome! This sounds spendid!

Only wishing now that I were a “dedicated Austen blogger” myself… *melodramatic sigh*
I’ll just suffer to be content with painting my Austen felines and blogging about nothing of importance. LOL

According to Gilbert White in Selbourne (see recent post) on the week of Jane Austen’s birth in 1775, the weather was ‘rugged, Siberian…’

It’s interesting that now, 235 years later, the weather in the British Isles is unusually cold with temperatures, even here by the Atlantic of the west of Ireland, sinking to -10 centigrade at nights.

I think of Mrs Austen in her bedroom where the urine froze in the pots beneath the bed – and imagine her trying to keep a new-born baby warm…
