Inquiring readers: The Outreach Director of the Daily Glow kindly allowed me to share this fun post by Sharon Tanenbaum. I’ll share a few of her seven tips and then direct you the site. I might even put in a few of my own! Enjoy.
The Crawleys may have old-fashioned manners, but their skin and hair are modern marvels. Here are the best beauty tips from the third season of the Masterpiece broadcast on PBS.
1. Your complexion always looks better in candlelight.
2. For an instant anti-aging trick, stand next to someone who’s at least 30 years your senior.
3. Don’t underestimate the power of a red lip.
4. If you’re going without makeup, make sure your skin is flawless.

Here are some more beauty tricks:
A. Modest attire goes a long way towards rehabilitating your fallen reputation
B. To look like the classiest woman in the room, stand beside one who is not.

I never go anywhere without my parasol!
Curtis, did you really just say that? Now I’ll have the giggles for a month.
The young lady Crawleys and Cora all lost weight for the new series and this period change of straight gowns that require a stick figure, and that aged them all quite a bit – faces look too gaunt. So if Mary is acting a little uppity, I mind it less knowing she doesn’t look as glamorous as last season.
Oh dear! I haven’t a parasol? Will sunscreen do? Where does one find a parasol?
The Jane Austen gift shop in bath sold parasols. I saw it on their online gift shop. Pretty ones too.
I am thankful to get a break from leathery tanned skin and tattoos. I like the notion of beautiful skin as a statement of fashion.
There are only three episodes left?! Does anyone know when it will be available on DVD afterward?
it’s already on DVD. i got mine yesterday and gorged on the whole 3 season in one sitting. i hear there’s a season 4 coming. there’s better be, after the way this one ends…
got mine from amazon $32.00
I also got my pre-ordered DVD from Amazon yesterday. Stayed up until 1:00 AM watching the last few episodes! I agree with Izzy re season 4 and ending of season 3!!!
i beat you karen….i was up til 3 am!!! haha
Don’t hold your breath about Season 4 – Some of Fellowes comment don’t bode well for our favorite series.
fellowes refers to season 4 in the ‘specials’ on the dvd, so i think we’ll see it. also, the ending of season 3 is just too ‘unfinished’. i think he might take the series to the beginning of WW2 as he’s said that his favourite period is the 50 years from 1890-1940 (the ‘world changing years’)
pbs.org lists Season 3 as “Now Shipping”
Wonderful and witty advice. I read that five-star hotels always use warm light bulbs because you always look prettier with them as opposed to halogen bulbs which make your complexion not so pretty and admirable. I have experienced the difference and would advise the hotels worldwide to ban this kind of light.
Fun post. I tweeted.
I have at least three hats and love wearing them everywhere and with everything. From doing yard work to visiting friends – I’ll toss on a hat especially if I’m running late for time. Hats can also be a fashion statement even in the 21st century. Of course, I don’t know what category of fashion that puts me in, nonetheless, I enjoy wearing my hats.
While the tips may seem a bit tongue-in-cheek, there is truth here.
In the late 18th century whale oil was something of a status symbol, and while I do not know the primary source, the female guests complained freely of the harsh light. Isn’t lighting a constant issue today with those involved in the media?
Also, there are protective sun umbrellas today which are very effective if you happen to work in a sun-drenched environment and have no choice with respect to sun exposure.
Great piece and thank you for sharing, Vic.
I’ve never seen this program but I did enjoy these tips, I’m sure they must have originated with one of America’s old stand up comedians
YOU HAVEN’T SEEN DOWNTON ABBEY????????? Get thee to Netflix!
June, LordBeaiOfBow is from Australia. Our visitor cannot get to netflix.
Vic is perfectly correct,
Fortunately we can’t get Netflix whatever that may be in Australia.
However I know that this program is aired on one of our free to air commercial television stations unfortunately.
Fortunately I do not watch the commercial television stations which means that you too are correct I haven’t seen downton abbey.
I am still reeling under the weight of Upstairs/Downstairs and with two episodes still to go of that rubbish I will have seen enough to last me a life time and at my age there isn’t that much lifetime left to waste on other silly English shows.
Ah what I’d give for another production of P & P with Claire Foy as Elizabeth
:)
Great post, Vic! I do try to stand in candlelight whenever possible…or do I need a parasol for that? ;)
I don’t think the two targeted characters give a pudding about their “figure flaws.”
1. Your complexion always looks better in candlelight.
-> I have to agree with this one! It’s the same under yellowish light bulbs.
AND!
E. You are assured to be treated with the utmost respect when wearing your best power clothes.
-> Agree, agree, agree! I notice how people are more bound to treat you well if you’re dressed well no matter what the situation.
