I have reviewed many Georgette Heyer novels for this blog. Here are some images of the author over the years. She had a strong handsome face. Not pretty, but full of character.
Read this review in the Guardian UK of her latest biography by Jennifer Kloester.
Also, Happy Birthday, Georgette Heyer!
Cartland understood marketing herself and I’m sure she was well aware of the plagiarism and her meagre skills compared to Heyer – she was not stupid. I was present at a lunch where Cartland spoke and she was probably 98 at the time. She showed up in her signature shocking pink dress and accessories (idea of color stolen from Schaparelli). She then proceeded to tell the audience that she took 100 vitamin pills a day and she was sharp and in perfect health. I recommend following her regime.
I will be ordering the Kloester bio. I’ve read her other book and enjoyed it. I’ve already ordered Heyerwood. I formed the impression that she wasn’t a woman that many people liked or had the opportunity to really get to know. She did write wonderful fiction! So well researched.
Thank you for posting these photographs. I had never seen Georgette Heyer’s image before, and the one word that comes to mind when I look at these pictures of her at all the different ages is… formidable!Jane Gray
Lovely pictures of GH – lots of character in her face. I can picture herself as one of her English heroines — lovely but private and strong minded. Thanks!
